A Dream Realized
On February 5, 2025, I traveled from my home state of Maryland to Delaware to search for a home located 20 to 30 minutes from the beach. It has been a long-held dream of mine to purchase a home near the beach. A home that will be my retirement home.
Ms. Doreen Brown, a Realtor, was highly recommended by a friend of mine who is a retired Realtor licensed in Maryland. I assumed that it would take about 2 to 3 visits to coastal Delaware before I found my dream home. To my surprise, that was not the case.
Before traveling to Delaware, I had emailed Doreen the amenities I wanted in my home: a 2- to 3-bedroom, two-bathroom, laundry room, kitchen, and dining area, all on the main level. I didn’t want to have to do yard work and snow removal. The purchase point was also important. Additionally, I wanted to reside within 20 to 30 minutes of the beach. What I really liked about Doreen was that she respected my wishes and did not try to persuade me to purchase something else or at a higher price.
I met Doreen face-to-face on February 6 in her office in downtown Lewes, DE. She greeted me with enthusiasm and a sense of optimism. Prior to meeting Doreen in person, she had emailed me the homes for sale and a link to look at them before we conducted the site visit.
We site visited several homes, all new construction and in great locations. I liked the houses Doreen had chosen for me to see because all met my criteria to the point that I selected a home to purchase on that day.
On February 7, I met with Lennar’s Loan Officer and applied for a home loan. On February 27, Doreen was by my side when I attended the settlement meeting to purchase my dream home. Throughout the home-buying process, Doreen looked out for my best interests.
Doreen’s strengths appear to be her eagerness and capacity to help others, her enthusiasm for her work, her ability to excel in interpersonal communications, and her understanding of the breadth and depth of the real estate market in Delaware.
As a Realtor, I found Doreen to be very Relatable, Earnest, Attentive, Listener, Trustworthy, Organized, and Resourceful. She was an invaluable asset to me in identifying and ultimately realizing my dream of home ownership in coastal Delaware.
